‘You can coach, but you can’t play in the game’

View your role at mealtimes as the facilitator, the coach if you will. You provide the ‘what’, ‘where’ and ‘when’ and it is then up to your child to decide ‘what’ they will choose from the offering at the table and ‘how much’.

This no-pressure, evidence-based approach creates an environment where a child is more likely to try new food rather than be pressured, which can actually have the opposite effect where your child backs away further.

You can coach, but you can’t play in the game’. We cannot ‘make’ our children eat the food we want them to, but we can create a framework that gives them the opportunity to.
