Why not eat it all?

This is not just a pancake my daughter couldn’t finish at breakfast this morning, it symbolises something far deeper.

My husband and I are raising our kids as intuitive eaters and have a framework the kids eat in; we are in charge of WHAT we serve, WHERE and WHEN it is served.

It is then over to the kids. They decide WHAT they will eat from the offering at the table and HOW MUCH. This approach gets kids in tune with their own hunger and fullness cues, they are the best judges of their own appetites, not us. Really.

And this doesn’t mean it’s a free-for-all eating doughnuts 24/7! Remember; the parent is in charge of WHAT they serve.

We treat all food all the same. We don’t give certain food certain energy, we don’t demonise, we don’t comment on how we’ll need to squeeze into our jeans after pudding or ‘work off’ food. We reject diet culture.

We don’t restrict or call food ‘bad’, as this can backfire and develop further preoccupation with certain food.

What I do in my 1:1s, is help parents through my 101 practical program, how to implement this approach using easy-to-use techniques to get more variety in your child’s diet.

We are still learning, still on a journey, we won’t be getting it all right. But it feels kinder and calmer all round.
