What Do You Call This?

WHAT DO YOU CALL THIS FOOD?

Junk? Fast food? What about just ‘Food’?

Here me out.

🏷️ DITCH LABELS 🏷️
We think we are helping our kids by labelling food as ‘good’ or ‘bad’, but in fact research shows it’s more helpful to call food for what it is: a carrot is a carrot, a cake a cake, a Big Mac is a Big Mac. It means we can eat food more intuitively.
Children internally become very confused if we call a food ‘bad’, when all the while, it tastes blummin’ delicious!

🤐 RESTRICTION = OBSESSION 🤐
We think we are helping by restricting certain types of food, but this just elevates its value even more and guess what; we then desire it more! If we stop demonising certain food, we can really work out what we want to eat and surprisingly, that won’t be McDonald’s each day if we offer a wide range of food in our kids’ diets!

🤗 ROLE MODEL 🤗
We think we are helping by making our kids feel guilt and shame for eating this type of food, but yep, you guessed it, this will often backfire. We can’t avoid this food. We want our children to learn how certain food feels in their bodies, a skill most definitely needed in adulthood! Surely better to role model our neutral reaction to it, then to ban it completely?

There is a place for all food.

Let’s help our kids navigate this with love ❤️ , enjoyment 😛 and food neutrality 🤫.
